At Reformation Hope Church, we are a “reformed” body, in the sense that we adhere to the distinctive theology of reformers such as Luther, Calvin, and Knox that places a strong emphasis on the central doctrine of God’s sovereignty and providence in history. Thus, reformation theology places great emphasis God’s Covenant of Grace. That our sovereign God for no other reason than His own love and gracious mercy, has chosen lost sinners to be redeemed by the quickening power of the Holy Spirit and through the atoning death and resurrection of His son, Jesus Christ. This distinguishes the Reformed tradition from other Protestant bodies.
Reformation Hope Church also adheres to the 5 Solas of the Protestant Reformation:
Sola Scriptura The Bible is the inspired and inerrant Word of God ant it alone is the final authority.
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. (2 Tim. 3:16).
Sola Fide Justification is by faith alone by God’s free grace.
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. (Rom. 5:1-2)
Solus Christus Jesus Christ as the sole mediator between God and man. Salvation is Christ’s work alone.
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. (1 Tim. 2:5-6).
Sola Gratia Salvation through God’s grace alone in contrast to the doctrines of self-merit taught by the Roman Catholic Church.
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast (Eph. 2:8-10).
Soli Deo Gloria All of life is to be lived under the Lordship of Christ. Every activity of the Christian is to be sanctified unto the glory of God.
Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. (1 Cor. 10:31).
We believe in the Trinity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. These three persons are one God, same in substance, equal in power and glory.
Sacraments in the Church
We teach that neither communion nor baptism is saving when someone partakes of them. They are commanded in Scripture and are designed for believers, used by God to edify the body of Christ.
We believe the sacraments – baptism and the Lord’s Supper (Communion) – are blessed by Christ and experience the working of God’s Spirit therein and toward those who receive them by faith. Baptism and Communion are instituted by Christ, and the benefits of the new covenant are represented and applied to believers through these sacraments.
Christ’s death is represented in the giving and receiving of bread and wine, and believers are symbolically made partakers of Christ’s body and blood, to their spiritual nourishment and growth in grace. Those who would worthily partake in the communion must discern within themselves their knowledge of Christ and their faith in Him, and examine their diligence towards repentance, love, and new obedience in Christ.
